Dayspring to Hallmark Transition

You can now scan Hallmark counter cards at POS just like you have traditionally scanned Dayspring cards!

If you want the long version with more details, check out the bottom of the email below…

First, here are the normal instructions for ensuring your system is up-to-date with the latest Hallmark/Dayspring counter card information…

If you have BSM set up to use the price point reference file (as described here), you need to download the current reference file.

  • Version 8.11 (and earlier)
    1. Download the Zipped data files by clicking here.
    2. When the download completes, open the Zip file and extract/copy the files to your BOOK folder.
  • Version 9.00
    • You should have already received the current file via the automatic cloud update routine.
    • If you don’t have the newest Dayspring file, you can manually trigger the cloud update routine.
      1. MAKE SURE ALL STATIONS ARE OUT OF BSM.
      2. On one computer (preferably the server), start BSM. At Enter Program Name, enter SCHEDULE.
      3. Make sure all the boxes are checked so you get weekly updates.
      4. Click the Check for Regular Updates Now button.
      5. On the Update Progress screen, click the Start button and wait for the routine to finish.
      6. Once the routine is completed, all stations can get back into Bookstore Manager.
      7. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you get a File Error message on the Dayspring file when you go into POS, that means you had at least one station left in POS when downloading the updated files. To fix this, get ALL stations out of BSM, then redo the steps with the addition of checking the Force downloads checkbox on the Update Progress screen (with the Start button).

Please let us know if you have any problems downloading or extracting the file.

P.S. As promised, here are additional details some of you may enjoy knowing…

As you are no doubt aware, the transition from Dayspring as an independent operator to being fully within Hallmark was completed earlier this summer. Jim Berger from Dayspring connected us with some of the IT staff at Hallmark a few months ago so we could describe the approach many retailers using BSM take towards ringing up counter cards at the point-of-sale. After some back-and-forth with test files, we received a final file from them on Monday. We got the green light yesterday to send the information in that file out to you!

We processed the new data feed, and it went out as part of last night’s automatic update for version 9 stores (and updated the traditional Zip file for stores running version 8.11). We took the information Hallmark provided and added it to the last update we received from Dayspring, so this updated file will seamlessly work with any existing Dayspring counter cards you might still have, as well as your new Hallmark cards.

You may be interested to learn that the new data file from Hallmark had 18,141 product UPCs with price points. For comparison, the last “complete” file we received from Dayspring had 6,024 product UPCs with price points.
