RMS Version 8.00J Program Changes on the February 2015 Update


The monthly update disc you receive from BSMGR for RMS contains a current copy of the Christian Books & More® database, new images, music samples and program changes. Remember to run IVDC after installing your update to reflect retail prices changes for your store’s inventory items. When that program completes, you can use IVL to print labels with the new prices.


As a reminder, each month’s update disc also includes a folder titled “Manual” that contains the current RMS manual. The file is in Microsoft Word format, and there is a free Word viewer program in the folder in case you don’t have a copy of Microsoft Word installed on your computer. For your convenience, the RMS program changes on this update are listed below.


CAMCAPT:
NEW PROGRAM TO CAPTURE PRODUCT IMAGES USING A WEB CAM.
CASHCALC:
COIN ROLL ENHANCEMENT – CHANGED “ADD ROLL” BUTTON TO “+” AND “-” BUTTONS ALONG WITH A COUNTER FOR HOW MANY ROLLS HAVE BEEN ADDED. ALSO INCLUDED ROLL COUNT ON THE PRINT OUT.
COMM:
SOME FEATURES RELEATED TO ELECTRONIC ORDERING DON’T WORK PROPERLY WHEN RUN FROM A THIN CLIENT SETTING. ADDED A WARNING WHEN THE PROGRAM STARTS IF A THIN CLIENT SETTING IS DETECTED.
HELP:
NEW PROGRAM – RECEIVED REQUEST TO HAVE A SINGLE LOCATION TO SAVE IMPORTANT CONTACT INFO. USING THE SFRPT PROGRAM TO SHOW THE INFORMATION THAT IS SAVED IN THE FILE HELPINFO.TXT. THIS CAN BE EDITED WITH NOTEPAD AND EASILY VIEWED FROM ANY BSMGR STATION BY TYPING IN “HELP”.

NEW PROGRAM FOR ADDING IMAGES TO BUTTONS FOR VARIOUS SCREEN RESOLUTIONS.

CYCLE COUNT TRIES TO PLAY THE “C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA\TADA.WAV” SOUND WHEN ITEM IS NOT FOUND ON CYCLE COUNT #1. IT ALSO CLEARS THE ITEM FIELD WHEN NOT FOUND AND PUTS IT IN A LIST BOX ON THE SCREEN WITH A 0 COUNT AND “NOT FOUND”.
POS:
ADDED SUPPORT FOR IMAGES ON BUTTONS.
VITALD FILE WAS NOT BEING NAMED USING PROFILES.
POSMENU:
ADDED SUPPORT FOR IMAGES ON BUTTONS.
SFRPT:
REMOVED DEBUG LINE. WHEN YOU CLICK THE “VIEW IN WORDPAD” BUTTON, A DEBUG MESSAGE WAS SHOWN.
THEFLAGS:
THE STL AND NEWDAY INTERNET STOCK CHECKS HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN PROCESSED THROUGH BSMINET. THEY ARE NOW DONE WITH POSTHTTP AFTER THE INGRAM STOCK CHECK COMPLETES. ALSO, REMOVED STL-WEST WAREHOUSE SINCE IT HAS CLOSED. ALSO, ADDED A LINE FOR THE NEW PRINT-ON-DEMAND WAREHOUSE IN FRESNO, CA THAT OPENED IN JANUARY.

Munce – February 2015 Catalog File

With the recently concluded holiday season and all the time required to prepare for the Christian Products Expo (CPE) show in Hershey, PA this week, the February catalog info didn’t get to us in time to be included on our January update. We now have that information, and it is ready for you to use.

If you are a Munce store and plan on sending out the February catalog, please download and process the data file that will prepare your inventory.

  1. Download the Zipped catalog file by clicking here.
  2. When the download completes, open the Zip file and extract M-FEB-R.TXT to your BOOK folder.
  3. In BSMGR, run “IVPROMO” at the Enter Program Name prompt.
  4. At the “Enter File Name” prompt, type in M-FEB-R.TXT, then click the OK button.
  5. Any products that are in the catalog and not in your inventory will open the IVM “Add” screen. Add the missing product(s) to your inventory.

PCI Requirements and EMV/Smart Cards

You may have heard about the new PCI security requirements that will take effect in October, 2015. We’ve received questions from some and wanted to share what we know so far with all.

The Payment Card Industry has mandated a shift to smart card technologies in an effort to better protect cardholder information. Smart cards, also known as “chip and pin” or EMV, rely on technology based on an imbedded microchip in credit and debit cards. These cards will require a reader that will retrieve the consumer’s payment information from the chip instead of the traditional magnetic stripe.

Historically, the card brands (Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Discover®, et al) assumed liability for fraudulent transactions. Beginning with the implementation of the new requirements, liability for fraudulent cards will to shift those merchants who do not upgrade their hardware to read smart cards. Only those merchants who install the Smart Card technology will be shielded from this liability and the burden to prove the validity of each transaction.

Bookstore Manager is investigating and testing the hardware that will integrate with the payment module. Aside from meeting the PCI requirements, we are focused on readers that are reasonably priced and simple to operate. Testing should be completed by the end of the first quarter 2015, allowing ample time for you to budget and implement the new devices.

Our partnership with National Processing Company has been a valuable asset in evaluating and making this change. Their levelheaded approach contrasts sharply to those processors who use “the sky is falling” rhetoric in an attempt to scare merchants into rash and reckless decisions. Additionally, this relationship enables us to provide you with one stop support if you ever encounter a processing related issue.
