iPhone Inventory App Intro

We are excited to announce that our new inventory scanning app will be released soon. Apple has approved our app as a Beta (test) release, and we are doing some final internal testing and working on documentation.

Before we release the new feature, we would like to work with a few stores to test the app and corresponding new RMS program in a retail setting.

Here are the requirements:

  1. You must have a device running iOS version 8.0 or later to use TestFlight for accessing the beta version. Ideally, this would be an iPhone or iPod Touch. You can use the app on an iPad, but the bulk of the larger unit may make the process a little awkward. Once installed, the app will run on devices using iOS 6.0 or later.
  2. To speed up the process, you need to have a Bluetooth barcode reader. We have a couple of options to choose from. A standard reader is $139. A heavy duty reader is $299. If you do not use a scanner, you will have to manually enter each product’s item number. Eligibility as a beta test site requires using a Bluetooth scanner.
  3. You also need a license for the RMS to qScan interface program. Normally, this will sell for $395 for a single user. Beta test stores will be able to purchase a special 2-user license for only $195.
  4. You must be willing to actually test/use the program during the beta test period.

We are limiting the number of beta tests to five (5) stores on a “first come, first served” basis. If you want to know more or are ready to sign up, please contact Steven at 800.997.6724 (option 1) or click here to email us.

If Enable images to see logo accepted as a beta test site, you will be sent an invitation from the iTunes store with a subject line of “TestFlight: You’re invited to test RMS qScan 1.0”.

The email will have a link to download the app with the logo shown to the right and the following statement, “You can accept this invitation with the Apple ID that you are currently using. Your Apple ID and the email address to which the invite was sent don’t have to match.” To accept this invitation, you must have TestFlight installed on your iOS device.” Please note that while it is in beta, iTunes doesn’t list the app, so a search for the app will currently yield no results.

P.S. The app only works on iOS devices. We currently do not have versions for Android, Windows, Blackberry or other mobile/tablet systems. We are waiting to see what the response is to the Apple app and the desire for other platforms.

Save Time on STL Orders

Time Saver for STL Product Orders

While it’s great being able to earn free shipping when you hit a minimum threshold, it’s not fun doing manual stock checks for each item on a large PO to see if the order qualifies.

Now, with a push of a button, you can easily check stock levels for an entire STL Purchase Order from IVO!

When the process completes, a report is generated that summarizes the PO, showing what you want to order, what is fulfillable and the estimated wholesale cost.

This new feature was added on the February 2015 (Version 8.00J) Update. Let us know if you encounter any problems with it.

To see a quick demonstration (just over 1 minute), please click here.

P.S. Remember you can also do a full order stock check for an Ingram order by changing the fourth character in the Special Codes field from “0” (order) to “5” (stock check).

Munce – March 2015 Catalog Files

If you are not sending Munce catalogs, please disregard this email.

The March Munce catalog info didn’t get to us in time to be included on our February update. We now have that information, and it is ready for you to use.

If you plan on sending out one of the March catalogs, please download and process the data files that will prepare your inventory.

  1. Download the Zipped catalog file by clicking here.
  2. When the download completes, open the Zip file and extract M-MAR-R.TXT and M-MAR-C.TXT to your BOOK folder.
  3. In BSMGR, run “IVPROMO” at the Enter Program Name prompt.
  4. At the “Enter File Name” prompt, use the appropriate file:
    1. For the Regular catalog, type in M-MAR-R.TXT
    2. For the Conservative catalog, type in M-MAR-C.TXT

    then click the OK button.

  5. Any products that are in the catalog and not in your inventory will open the IVM “Add” screen. Add the missing product(s) to your inventory.

If you have any problems downloading the file or getting the file to process from within IVPROMO, please let us know.

PCI Requirements and EMV/Smart Cards Update

We want to provide you an update to the Smart Card / EMV requirements that will be implemented October, 2015.

You may remember from our notice last December that the Payment Card Industry has mandated a shift to smart card technologies in an effort to better protect cardholder information. Smart cards, also known as “chip and pin” or EMV, rely on technology based on an imbedded microchip in credit and debit cards. These cards will require a reader that will retrieve the consumer’s payment information from the chip instead of the traditional magnetic stripe.

Historically, the card brands (Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Discover®, et al) assumed liability for fraudulent transactions. Beginning with the implementation of the new requirements, liability for fraudulent cards will shift to those merchants who do not upgrade their hardware to read smart cards. Only those merchants who install the Smart Card technology will be shielded from this liability and the burden to prove the validity of each transaction.

We have identified a couple of different EMV card reader options that are currently being tested. The devices are “smart” and have programming built in. This means we have to work with the manufacturers to coordinate communication between the device and our software. Until we know this is working properly, we won’t identify the brand or model of the test units. We are still on target to have our internal development and testing done by the end of the first quarter.

Each point of sale station will have a consumer facing reader which will allow the cardholder to retain possession of their card, thereby increasing security for you and the shopper. While there is no charge for the software enhancements, you will want to budget around $250 to $300 per station for the hardware.

Our partnership with National Processing Company has been a valuable asset in evaluating and making this change. Their levelheaded approach contrasts sharply to those processors who use “the sky is falling” rhetoric in an attempt to scare merchants into rash and reckless decisions. Additionally, this relationship enables us to provide you with one stop support if you ever encounter a processing related issue.

If you have any questions or unique situations, please contact us at support@bsmgr.com or merchantservices@bsmgr.com.

We are continually thankful for the partnership we have with you, and we trust the Lord will bless you and your ministry in the days to come.
